We’re thrilled to welcome Stephanie Suero to the United Methodist Community House team as our new Development Associate! Stephanie is a first-generation Davenport University graduate who has called Grand Rapids home for over 20 years — she’s a true Grand Rapidian at heart! As a first-generation Afro-Latina, she is deeply passionate about uplifting underrepresented communities and understands firsthand the power of community-driven programs.
Stephanie joins UMCH at an exciting time. Alongside our Development Director, she’ll also help implement our annual fundraising strategy — work that is essential to growing our impact and strengthening our community.
With a strong background in nonprofit work, Stephanie has dedicated her career to fostering connectivity. She has actively advocated for small business owners, championed opportunities for individuals to leverage their language and culture and has continuously given back through service aimed at advancing the community.
Sing it with us 🎶 Haaaaappy Biiiirthday to Ms. Berniiiiiice! Happy Birthday to yoooou!
That’s right. Ms. Bernice in our Older Adults program turned 100 YEARS OLD today and in true ‘Community House Fashion’ we had to celebrate her with love, balloons, and celebratory shenanigans to honor the life of the party that she has been and will continue to be in the years ahead.
Ms. Bernice said that UMCH made today really special for her but she doesn’t feel very different from her family because her mother lived to be 106 years old! Outside of UMCH, Ms. Bernice says she stays active in the community through her church Messiah GR Baptist Church.
Shanquel Askew, UMCH Global Mission Fellow, says Ms. Bernice is “a very feisty and lovable person that we all appreciate being able to sit down and have conversations with. She’s really just a joy to be around. She does not let her age stop her and she will tell you in a second that she can do anything. We love it.”
Send Ms. Bernice some love in the comments!! 🥳🎉

There’s so many new things happening in ‘the house’ in 49507.
We are excited to start off the year welcoming our new Director of Development Denavvia Mojet to the United Methodist Community House family.
Denavvia is a Grand Valley State University graduate who boasts an impressive 10+ year history in non-profit administration and leadership with a special focus on racial equity, philanthropy, and community development. She says that her love for UMCH programming stems from her own personal experiences as a single mother navigating the dire need for early childhood programming and affordable fresh food coupled with her upbringing in a close-knit intergenerational family structure.
In the new year, Denavvia will oversee donor stewardship, grant management, marketing, and community engagement.
Join us in celebrating our newest leadership team member below!
New year, new….role? UMCH is looking far and wide for qualified applicants who exemplify our agency values—EXCELLENCE, PASSION, INTEGRITY, COMPASSION, and TEAMWORK.
