Our Programs
What We Do
UMCH has four core program areas that help community members of all ages to thrive. Located in Southeast Grand Rapids in the 49507 zip code, UMCH is committed to serving a diverse population and to offering innovative, culturally relevant services that grow with our community.
Child Development Center
The UMCH Child Development Center offers high quality early childhood education for children ages 6-weeks through 4-years old using the High Scope Curriculum—a research-based curriculum for the development of the whole child. We are committed to giving all families access to excellent child development services that help prepare children to thrive in school and throughout their lives.
Youth Programs
Programs for youth at UMCH include after-school activities at nine GRPS 21st-Century Learning Centers during the school year, and day camp during the summer months. In both programs, we provide school-aged children with opportunities to stay busy, learn new skills, strengthen social relationships, reinforce learning, and to have new experiences during the hours parents are traditionally at work.
Senior Programs
UMCH offers a variety of activities and services for adults 60 years of age and older to maintain or improve clients' quality of life and overall wellbeing. We provide assistance with meals, transportation, health services, physical fitness, and more. Participants will find a welcoming and caring environment at our Senior Center, where they feel a sense of community and belonging. In all that we do, we seek to help fulfill the needs of the mind, body, and spirit.
The Fresh Market at UMCH
The Fresh Market at UMCH is the newest initiative by United Methodist Community House designed to offer affordable access to healthy, locally sourced food to Kent County residents while supporting Michigan growers and good food systems.
