Welcome to the Youth Development Department!

Programs for youth at UMCH include after-school activities at nine GRPS 21st-Century Learning Centers during the school year, and day camp during the summer months. In both programs, we provide school-aged children with opportunities to stay busy, learn new skills, strengthen social relationships, reinforce learning, and to have new experiences during the hours parents are traditionally at work.

What We Offer

The 21ST CENTURY PROGRAM is offered right in Grand Rapids Public Schools to provide school-aged youth with an opportunity to do homework and have structured recreational activities. Snacks are provided and the staff help create an atmosphere of fun and learning.

UMCH manages 8 of the GRPS 21st Century sites:

    • Alger Middle
    • Burton Elementary
    • Campus Elementary
    • Dickinson Elementary
    • Gerald R. Ford Elementary
    • Harrison Elementary
    • Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary
    • Westwood Middle

To sign up, visit your school office. You can learn more about the program on the GRPS website.

Adventure Club is offered Monday-Friday for 9 weeks during the summer months. The club is open to all children ages 5-10. Each week is filled with fun, teamwork, crafts, field trips, music, and a curriculum to strengthen their academic skills. Lunch is provided daily in this safe, affordable day program that keeps kids involved in positive activities all summer long.

To register, please visit us at 904 Sheldon Ave. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49507 to complete registration forms and pay program fees. All first-time registrations must be completed in person. Registration in subsequent weeks may be completed over the phone.
